Today marked another chapter in my journey to improve my skills in cloud pruning.

Before I show you the transformation of today’s cloud pruning session, let me share the recent cloud-pruned tree from yesterday. As you can see it isn’t a Japanese boxwood like in the first picture. It’s another kind of tree that I don’t know. 😅 Since I want to master cloud pruning, I simply have to get started and work with what I have in our garden. Honestly, I didn’t think that tree was special or good looking, so I wasn’t worried about screwing it up. Besides it will grow again.

Cloud pruning, as enchanting as it is, demands patience. The lush and dense clouds on the tree emerge gradually, taking their time to reach perfection. Thankfully, with autumn upon us, the growing season is winding down, providing an ideal moment for this meticulous process.

As the temperatures are now more agreeable, it’s a pleasure to work in the garden. An added bonus: no mosquitoes!

Now, without further ado, here’s the initial state of another tree I cloud pruned today:

Honestly, upon reflection, the cloud formations on this tree resemble delicate bird nests. And it also another tree or plant that I don’t know. 😅

The first picture with the perfectly cloud pruned Japanese boxwood is what I am aiming for. Unfortunately I have no Japanese boxwood in our garden, as evolved and matured, like the ones I saw Magome.

Many neighbours have perfectly cloud pruned trees. Yet bear in mind that they had these trees for years if not for generations, often pruned annually by a professional gardeners.

Me on the other hand, I am just getting started, so I am not hard on myself if I don’t get it right from the start.

I am sure I will need a lot of practice and time to cloud prune our trees to my desired level.

Practice makes perfect, right?
