Thoughtful writing and the art of paying attention.

Leaving Room for Serendipity

One of the recurring themes on this blog is revisiting places and doing things without much of a plan.

This morning was one of those moments again.

After my yoga kriyas, I headed out to get a haircut.

QB House, my go-to barber, is located inside AEON Mall.

When I arrived, I discovered it wouldn’t open for another 40 minutes.

Fortunately, I had packed my drones before leaving home.

Not because I had a specific flight in mind.

Just because I thought I might fly somewhere afterwards.

With some time to spare, I decided to drive back to a small park along the Kiso River and take one of my drones into the air.

The weather was perfect.

I didn’t have a shot list.

I didn’t have a plan.

I simply launched my new DJI Avata 360 and started flying.

Low above the water.

High above the riverbanks.

Framing whatever caught my attention.

Moving at a relaxed pace and simply enjoying the experience.

The flight lasted less than 10 minutes.

Yet everything was recorded in 360-degree video.

Back home, I started reviewing the footage.

To my surprise, it naturally came together as a panoramic 360º video, showcasing the scenery along the Kiso River more beautifully than I had appreciated while flying.

Even better, I was able to create two different videos from the same flight.

Each aimed at a different type of viewer.

These are the moments I enjoy most.

Not when I carefully plan every detail.

But when something unexpected emerges from a simple and enjoyable experience.

No pressure.

No complicated plan.

Just curiosity, a drone, and enough room for something interesting to happen.
