Ever since I started flying a cinematic drone alongside my FPV drone, I found myself becoming interested in photography again.
Years ago, photography was one of my hobbies.
I carried a DSLR camera almost everywhere.
Eventually, though, I stopped using it.
Taking photos with my iPhone became much more convenient, and I gradually lost interest in carrying around heavy camera gear.
I thought those years of photography were behind me.
But now that I’m flying a cinematic drone, something unexpected is happening.
The photography muscle memory is coming back.
Instead of searching for compositions on the ground, I’m searching for them from the air.
The principles haven’t changed.
Light and shadow.
Textures.
Patterns.
The rule of thirds.
They’re all still there.
Only my perspective has changed.
It made me realize that I hadn’t wasted those years learning photography after all.
The skills never disappeared.
They were simply waiting for a different way to be used.
