Watching Japan And Living In It

I watch a lot of Japan videos.

Especially from foreigners.

Everything looks calm.

Balanced.

Almost perfect.

Even a convenience store sandwich looks important.

At first, I liked it.

It felt familiar.

That’s how it felt when I first arrived.

Everything was new.

Even small things.

Now it’s different.

I live here.

It’s still nice.

But it’s also just normal.

I started watching Japanese YouTubers.

Content for Japanese people.

Very different.

No slow motion.

No dramatic music.

Just things as they are.

Tea being poured.

Not a moment.

Just tea.

It made me realize something.

It depends who you’re showing it to.

If you don’t live here, everything feels special.

If you do, you already know.

You don’t need a cinematic shot of a quiet street.

You were there yesterday.

I notice I prefer that now.

Less atmosphere.

More reality.

Not better.

Just closer.

Maybe it’s just distance.

The further away you are, the easier it is to turn a place into a feeling.

The closer you get, the more it becomes part of your day.

And daily life is not very cinematic.

But it works.
