About Karl

Hi, I’m Karl.

I live in rural Gifu, Japan, where I spend my days learning, practicing, and paying attention β€” to work, nature, culture, and the quieter rhythms of life.

I didn’t arrive here by following a straight line. I grew up in Switzerland, with roots in Thailand, spent many years in the Netherlands, and eventually settled in Japan. Moving between cultures shaped how I see the world and how I approach learning, change, and growth.

This blog grew out of daily practice. I write every day to reflect on what I’m learning β€” whether that’s adapting to life in Japan, working with FPV drones and cameras, tending a garden, exploring traditions, or simply noticing how consistency and patience change the way we live.

I don’t write as an expert or a motivator. I write as someone who is practicing, making mistakes, and learning in public. What I share is shaped by experience, not theory β€” grounded, imperfect, and honest.

If you’re here, you’re likely someone who’s starting again in some way β€” learning a new skill, adjusting to a new place, or trying to live with more intention and steadiness. If my reflections help you slow down, trust your own process, or take the next small step, then this space is doing what it’s meant to do.

Thanks for being here.

β€” Karl

This blog is for thoughtful adults who are starting again β€” in learning, creativity, or life β€” and want to grow steadily without noise or pressure.

Here you’ll find daily reflections and practical guides shaped by lived experience. The focus is on learning through doing: building consistency, adapting to change, and finding clarity in everyday practice.

The stories and guides here come from real processes β€” creative experiments, hands-on projects, life in rural Japan, working with nature, and learning new skills step by step. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is polished for performance. The aim is steady progress, honest reflection, and practical insight you can actually use.

If you’re curious about life in Japan, learning new skills at your own pace, or finding a calmer, more intentional way forward, you’re in the right place.
