Cutting the Noise: Why I Deleted Facebook (and Instagram Before That)

My journey of decluttering and cutting the noise out of my life continues.

A few months ago, I already deleted my Instagram account. It simply didnโ€™t fit my vision of what my personal internet presence should be anymore. Now, Iโ€™ve gone a step furtherโ€”Iโ€™ve decided to delete my Facebook account too. On 1 September 2025, it will be gone for good.

Why? Because it served no real purpose in my life.

Facebook Wasnโ€™t Friendship

Facebook was full of โ€œfriendsโ€ who were not really friends. We never engaged in real conversations. It was no more than a superficial address book, cluttered with names of people I hardly knew. At some point, I had to admit to myself: it wasnโ€™t about connection, it was about keeping up appearances.

Owning My Space Online

When I started writing this daily blog on my own website, everything shifted. Here, I set the tone. Here, readers who truly want to hear my voice come by choice. If theyโ€™re not interested, they donโ€™t need to โ€œunfriendโ€ meโ€”they simply unsubscribe. That feels so much more natural and honest.

The same goes for my YouTube channel, Karl FPV Drone Adventures in Japan. There, I connect only with fellow drone enthusiasts and hobbyists. People who care about this craft. People who want to learn, share, and grow together. Thatโ€™s a space where engagement feels real.

Why Iโ€™m Letting Go of the Old Platforms

Facebook and Instagram? Theyโ€™ve become endless scroll machines, feeding us uninvited news, ads, and noise. They turn attention into a commodity and numb the mind into passive consumption. Thatโ€™s not what I want for my life.

Instead, Iโ€™d rather double down on platforms that matter to meโ€”WordPress.com and YouTubeโ€”where I can share, interact, and create with people who genuinely care.

A Final Thought

Deleting Facebook isnโ€™t just about removing an app. Itโ€™s about reclaiming my attention, my energy, and my voice. I donโ€™t need a platform filled with vague connections and shallow interactions. Iโ€™d rather write, create, and connect with people who meet me where I amโ€”by choice.

So on 1 September 2025, Iโ€™ll say goodbye to Facebook once and for all.

I choose presence over noise.
