We went to GohΕtaki today in Yaotsu, Gifu Prefecture. Just a casual visit. Autumn leaves, waterfalls, a quiet walk. I brought my drone to capture the colors β that was the plan.
Then I noticed the name Miyamoto Musashi on the sign at the trailhead.
Turns out, he was a legendary samurai β undefeated in more than sixty duels, famous for fighting with two swords. But what people really admire him for isnβt just his skill with a blade. Itβs his mindset.
Musashi lived with complete discipline and focus. He trained his body and mind to work as one. Fans respect him because he wasnβt just a warrior β he was a philosopher who saw mastery as a way of life. His Book of Five Rings is still read today by people from all walks of life β martial artists, artists, entrepreneurs β anyone who wants to understand what true balance and awareness mean.
On the drive home, we listened to a few podcasts about him. The more I heard, the more I understood why Musashi still inspires so many people. He didnβt chase comfort or perfection. He chased growth. He faced life head-on.
And itβs funny β we didnβt go out looking for any of this. We just wanted to see waterfalls and some autumn foliage.
But inspiration appears unexpectedly.
