Japanese Cheese Fondue?

Only yesterday, I discovered cheese fondue from a Japanese brand in our local grocery supermarket. It was quite unexpected, and I wondered what it would taste like. I feel that traditional Swiss cheese fondue might be too strong for Japanese taste buds, so I imagine this version has a milder flavor.

From what I could translate on the packaging, this cheese fondue is made with Hokkaido cheese, which I haven’t had the chance to taste yetโ€”even during my visit to Sapporo last year during Golden Week. I’m tempted to try this Hokkaido cheese fondue out of curiosity and to compare it with Swiss cheese.

Before I can do that, I need a proper cheese fondue pan and rechaud, as I currently don’t have one here in Japan. I guess Iโ€™ll need to look around to find a suitable fondue set.

What do you think? Have you ever tasted Hokkaido cheese fondue? If so, what was it like? I would love to know!

When I saw the title, I was actually hoping to find a review of the Japanese Fondue, but I realise that without the proper equipment, it might be a bit difficult… ๐Ÿ˜‰.
I’ve seen Japanese-made Fondue (typically made with Hokkaido cheese) and was wondering how it tastes. I’m also tempted, but have never had the courage to actually buy it…
We used to buy Emmi fondue, which used to be available from the Seijo Ishii store, but recently discovered that it’s apparently no longer sold in Japan. So we’ve had to switch to another one. The only two reasonably priced ones are from Strรคhl and Le Superbe, both of which I was not familiar with. The latter doesn’t seem to get very good reviews, so we went for the Strรคhl Fondue, which luckily happens to be available at Seijo Ishii (as well as online).
We like it a lot – apart from the fact that it only comes in 1-portion packs. I mean, who buys Fondue for 1 person?
Once you’ve sampled the Japanese one, I’d be curious to know what it tastes like.

[…] We began our fondue journey with 200 grams of Swiss fondue cheese from Strรคhl, sourced from our nearest Costco store. To contrast this, we also prepared a Japanese cheese fondue made from Hokkaido cheese by the brand Yukizirushi. […]
