Filming Technique: Run and Gun Style Dilemma

Although still at the beginning of my videography journey, I recently reviewed my older YouTube videos from 4 years ago and was astonished by how poorly they were filmed and edited. The framing was subpar, the audio sounded distorted and unbalanced, and most importantly, there was no coherent preparation or storyline.

Fast forward to my recent videos, I’ve made some improvements, but there’s still a long way to go. Storytelling remains a significant challenge, and I’m determined to master this skill. Additionally, the filming still needs improvement. As I have no one to film me, I’m limited to a “run and gun” vlogging style, resulting in an action camera approach. This may make viewers uneasy, so I’m considering a different filming style, occasionally shooting from a single position to eliminate the need for “run and gun” every week.

As I continue to work on this week’s video, I am excited to share that it will be another “run and gun” shot video, featuring Chappie’s mischievous antics and our weekend Japanese furniture hunt in various malls here in Gifu. Stay tuned for more!
