Our garden has undergone an unexpected transformation after I planted crimson clovers in our raised beds a few months ago. The once lifeless old clay soil in our raised beds has now teemed with life, attracting an array of bees, butterflies, lizards, and bugs.

The sprouted crimson clover flowers have brought our garden to life, surprising us with their mesmerizing appearance resembling thin strawberries from a distance. Even my mother-in-law has been taken by their beauty, commenting on it every time she visits our garden with Chappie.

While my original intention in planting crimson clover was to use its nitrogen-fixing properties to fertilize the old soil to support the growth of our tomatoes, tomatillos, and negi, I am amazed by the additional benefits this “weed” has brought. It has turned our garden into a spring wonderland, attracting a host of pollinating friends.
