It’s 11 PM, and despite our late return from Hokkaido, I’m sticking to my discipline of writing a daily short story.

Today’s tale centers on our recent trip to Sapporo, where I’ve been mulling over at least five lasting impressions. But given the late hour, I’ll focus on just one.

During our exploration, a friend, who has been living in Hokkaido for over 10 years, insisted we try soup curry at one of Sapporo’s favorite spots, aptly named In Curry. Neither my wife nor I had experienced this before, and we were pleasantly surprised. Unlike the familiar thicker curries from Japanese, Thai, Indian, Nepalese, and Burmese cuisines, Hokkaido’s soup curry offers a unique twistโ€”spicy Japanese curry with a soupy base instead of a thicker sauce. It was a comforting revelation.

Opting for different variations, my wife chose chicken soup curry while I ventured into the realm of salmon soup curry. Each spoonful was a delightful blend of flavors and warmth that’s hard to put into words.

If you find yourself in Hokkaido, I urge you to give soup curry a try. While there are numerous options in Sapporo, In Curry stands out as our top recommendation. Despite lacking a website, you can find them at 5 Chome-9-33 Nijuyonken 3 Jo, Nishi Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido 063-0803.
