Japanese frozen pizzas are next level. Last weekend, my wife picked up a bag of frozen pizzas during our grocery run. She asked if I was okay with four cheeses, or as I usually call it, quattro formaggi.

Initially, I didn’t have high expectations for frozen pizzas here in Japan, as I still had Dr. Oetker pizzas from back in the Netherlands in mind. However, when I popped one frozen quattro formaggi into the grill oven, in less than 20 minutes, the pizza emerged steaming hot, with a crusty exterior and perfectly melted, slightly grilled cheese.

To my surprise, upon slicing it up and taking my first bite, I was amazed to find that it tasted just like a pizza fresh out of the stone oven of an Italian pizzeria.

I had been expecting something akin to the German-made Dr. Oetker pizzas, but how wrong I was about frozen pizzas! Now, my standard for frozen pizzas has reached new heights.

I know today’s topic might seem a bit cheesy, but hey, I don’t want all my blog posts to be too serious.
