My Instagram posts predominantly feature nature, showcasing mountains, forests, wildlife, rivers and waterfalls.

This isn’t by chance.

Japan’s government places a high priority on preserving natural habitats. Covering approximately 73% of Japan’s land area, its mountainous terrain ranks among the most extensive globally. The Japanese archipelago, comprising four main islands (Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku) and thousands of smaller ones, features numerous mountainous regions.

The Japanese Alps, spanning Honshu, are renowned for their rugged terrain and towering peaks. Japan’s forests encompass diverse ecosystems, from temperate deciduous forests in the north to subtropical forests in the south.

Despite Japan’s major cities being comparably much bigger in size to those in Europe, Japan’s urban and developed areas are relatively small compared to its expansive mountain terrain, lush forests, and fertile agricultural lands.

After residing in Kasamatsu (Gifu Prefecture) for nearly a year now, I’ve developed a deeper appreciation for the natural environment. Hiking amidst cedar forests and savoring water from mountain rivers has deepened my connection with nature.

An unexpected yet pleasant development in my life.
