The shift in weather between Japan and the Netherlands has significantly impacted my overall happiness.

Over the past 30 years in the Netherlands, enduring challenging weather and frigid temperatures was a constant. The biting cold, intensified by the persistent wind, became a part of daily life. I adapted my wardrobe to withstand the harsh conditions, but the gloomy weather took its toll.

Now, after spending several months in Japan, the contrast in sunlight is striking. In the Netherlands, sunlight often felt diluted, casting a dull glow. Japan, on the other hand, despite its rainy days and occasional typhoons, provides a refreshing abundance of sunlight, making even the rainy season more tolerable.

During the Japanese rainy season, heavy downpours alternate with swift clearings, unveiling brilliant blue skies. The sun in Japan seems to radiate with unparalleled brightness, a stark departure from the muted glow experienced in the Netherlands.

This stark difference in sunlight is my initial observation, marking one of many distinctions between Japan and the Netherlands.
