Yesterday, we went on a spontaneous hiking adventure in Inuyama, prompted by my mother-in-law’s suggestion to explore the picturesque trails, particularly enchanting during the autumn season.

Our journey commenced with a climb up the mountain to discover Jakkoin Temple, also known as the “maple leaf temple.” The name resonates when you witness the vibrant foliage surrounding this serene sanctuary.

Following our prayers at the temple, we eagerly continued our ascent along the hiking trail, treated to breathtaking views from the mountain’s summit, with Kinkazan and Gifu Castle creating a mesmerizing backdrop.

However, our descent took an unexpected turn, leading us down an unbeaten path through dense bushes, steep hills, and bamboo forests. Despite encountering a few slippery slopes and acquiring minor bruises, we found ourselves below Jakkoin Temple, far from the intended trail.

What started as an unintended detour became an adventure through unexplored territory, navigating off-limits areas. Our path led us through muddy riverbanks, beneath the shadow of a river dam, and eventually over a fence, bringing us full circle to our parked car.
