So, my attempt at growing coriander seemed like a total flop. Planted a bunch of seeds back in August, and by the time I jetted off to the Netherlands in early October, not a single coriander sprout in sight. I was convinced my green thumb had failed me.

My wife kept bugging me about the coriander’s progress before I flew to the Netherlands, and honestly, I thought it was a lost cause. Fast forward to November when I finally landed back home โ€“ surprise, surprise! In our garden was a coriander wonderland.

Turns out, my little green babies had been playing hide and seek while I was away. Much to my wife’s excitement, we ended up with an unexpected coriander jackpot. She went into a coriander-harvesting frenzy, washed the bunch, and stashed them in our freezer for safekeeping.

Now, you might wonder why coriander is such a big deal. Well, here in Japan, it’s not exactly a herb that steals the spotlight. A lot of folks here aren’t big fans of coriander. But for us, it’s a different story. We’re crazy about it because we whip up Thai and Vietnamese dishes quite often, and coriander is a kitchen essential for those recipes.
