Ever heard the saying, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”?

For me, that circle mostly revolves around my wife.

In my case, it’s the best thing that could have happened.

My wife brought perspectives into my life that I couldn’t have dreamed of before. She’d been around the world, worked as an entrepreneur, and was self-employed in various businesses. No kids, unmarried, always on her own feet, ceaselessly studying and working for both businesses and personal development.

On the flip side, I was living the paycheck-to-paycheck life, clocking in at a 9-5 desk job, eagerly anticipating weekends for parties, drinks, food, and the occasional recreational indulgenceโ€”for over a decade.

I was lethargic, with low aspirations and a lack of direction, seeking only quick thrills and highs.

Then I met my wife, and my life took a different turn.

She brought a different package than anyone I’d dated before, and truth be told, it was initially terrifying how different our lives were.

I had to face the fact that I had nothing to show for because I was lazy, lethargic, arrogant, and stuck in my life.

Miraculously, she and I got together quickly, and we charted out what we wanted for our lives.

My wife pushed my buttons and nudged me towards learning, studying, and taking action towards newly defined goals for our future.

Pointless distractions that consumed my time were replaced with self-development and growthโ€”mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and financially.

My wife never sweet-talked me into anything; she showed me how to change for the better through her actions.

If you catch my drift with this personal story, you’ll understand the importance of surrounding yourself with people who challenge you to become better.

It could be a spouse, a friend, a coach, a mentor, a parentโ€”someone who inspires change.

Feeling stuck in life? Be open to change and seek those who can nudge you toward your goals and aspirations.
