Reflecting on the journey towards 50 years of age has led me to ponder the twists and turns of my life. Questions arise โ€“ what might I have done differently, and what regrets linger for roads not taken?

Surprisingly, as I review the tapestry of my past, I find no room for regret or remorse. Every instance, be it moments of sadness, tears, or simmering anger, appears to have unfolded as it was meant to.

Take, for instance, the car accident at the tender age of 4, a haunting memory of pain and the looming possibility of a crippled future. The foster group home from 6 to 10, where weekends with parents were a luxury and strangers shaped my upbringing, resonates vividly. Bullying, sickness on consecutive birthdays, and the shadow of domestic violence etched themselves into my teenage and early adult years.

Financial hardships added another layer, demanding personal sacrifices for the sake of family sustenance. Yet, each challenge, adversity, and hardship became stepping stones, crafting a resilient and wiser version of myself.

Approaching 50 in a few years, I can unequivocally say it was all worth it. The lessons learned and strength gained from those tumultuous times now serve as an arsenal to face life’s uncertainties.

And now, a piece of advice to my younger self emerges from this retrospective journey:

Always cultivate self-improvement because you can never be strong enough.

Nurture and appreciate your body’s fitness and well-being because before you know it can be gone in an instant.

Ensure clarity and calmness in your mind because anger and fear cloud your judgments and are literally poisoning you.ย

Embrace continuous learning and seek out enjoyable challenges because growth makes us come alive and joyful.

Establish a financial safety net because there will be moments that you or others will need it.

And lastly, strive to be a solution, not a burden, to those around you. Don’t be messing around with yourself and annoy others with your crap.

This advice, born from a life rich with both triumphs and tribulations, encapsulates the essence of resilience. May it resonate with those navigating their unique journeys.
