Today, my wife and I treated ourselves to a nice lunch at Restaurant Breda in Amsterdam. We opted for a delightful 5-course omakase (chef’s choice menu).

The restaurant was recommended by my youngest sister, who owns and runs the successful and highly rated Thai restaurant “Thai Thai Poppetje” in Amsterdam West (https://thaithaipoppetje.nl/). She knows which restaurants to pick in Amsterdam, so if I want to dine out well, I don’t even bother doing research; I just ask my personal and trusted expert.

My wife and I treat ourselves twice a year to nice restaurants. Admittedly, we do this specifically with our American Express Platinum membership, which grants us a dining credit of 300 Euro per year. This is one of the benefits that Dutch American Express Platinum members receive.

If you are interested in these benefits too, check out my referral link for an extra membership welcome bonus: americanexpress.com/nl-nl/referral/kARLTV9Ql?XL=MIANS. At this point, this referral code will give you 12,000 Membership Rewards points. Go check it out!

The stories and guides here come from real processes โ€” creative experiments, hands-on projects, life in rural Japan, working with nature, and learning new skills step by step. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is polished for performance. The aim is steady progress, honest reflection, and practical insight you can actually use.

If youโ€™re curious about life in Japan, learning new skills at your own pace, or finding a calmer, more intentional way forward, youโ€™re in the right place.
